Sound Design- Dynamic Range and Metering

  • What is Dynamic Range? The difference of the softest and loudest of dB.

  • How does it affect Sound Recording? It enhances specific parts of the music to give you a better perception on the sound.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

  • Why is metering important?  It shows the different loudness of each sound that's being produced in the film

  • How can it help us with our sound recording? It can help us compress the other sounds.

  • What happens when the meter runs over level? It becomes to loud and it can be distorted.

Sound Design- Intent & Meaning

The Tone is a lot louder and straight forward which goes well with the pacing of the video which is smooth yet faster then the other videos that were given. The directors intention is that even though in the moment it's scary, standing up for someone in the long end will result in happiness. The impact on the audience would be to inspire them to understand that real life can be dangerous sometimes so you have to go through it and be at your best. Most components in the video were the guitar playing in the background, the sound of driving on the road, and the lady's voice. I counted around 3-4 different sounds in that video. The guitar and the voice overlay was the loudest while the roadside sounds and the beeping to the car was more minor. Relating to the women's story the choice of sounds and scenery gave it a more natural feel to the story that was being told. A city is very common for crime and other things to happen. The film is telling a story, one by someone who had a deeply relatable experience.

The tone sounded very rushed yet calm while the pacing had some quickness towards it. I don't really know what the intention of the director was, but maybe it had to do with something as "as long as you make it to the end you'll get your own satisfied reward." Atleast for me the impact was quite confusing, but yet tense, I was waiting for something to happen but it just kept it's same tone. Around 4-5 sound components. The components that were louder were obviously the voices and the banging of the door and stirring of the tea, and the ones that were softer were the street life and the grocery store ambiance. This film makes it interesting because it 's a black and white film which usually means sadness or boring films, but the intensified noises really makes it more interesting then it without the proper tuning.

From these directors I understand that you don't need a plot or a mindset to make an interesting film, you just need good audio that corresponds with the viewpoints of the film.

Fun With Discord

The amount of time it took to edit was very slim which is enjoyable to for time consumption, and doing it with 1 or 2 people makes it a lot quicker to record the way you want your video to be done.
