 Easy Ease:

(Time Remapping Pt. 2)

What Is It?
When preformed "Easy Ease" as a time remapping effect that slowly or quickly enters or exits a clip. This is widely used for clean or smooth transitions whether its for video footage or text effects.

Should I use it?
Of course. This quick addition to certain projects can definitely show professional mannerism and dedication into your film or clip especially when it involves a cinematic shot. Added with some blur and It has the ability to feel clean and make you look good at the same time.

 COLOR GRADING:

 What Is It?

Color Grading is when the  colors of a film/shot is alternated  to understand or develop the mood for the scene or shot. It gives the audience an extra expression of emotion. It really brings out personal preference in any editor because there's countless of possibilities that a scene could be emotionally interoperated.

Color Grading is really a simple process. Due to the fact that each color grade is designed by personal preference there is no "right/wrong" answer in this technique. It's proper to your own emotion. It is recommended though that if your using multiple shots and cuts when editing to use the effect in an adjustment layer rather than wasting your time copying each proper tone. The effect was just a couple click and drags in the "Color" tab in Premiere Pro, and honestly it creates such another impact by using a couple minutes of your time. In more cinematic shots I would definitely use color grading towards my advantage of a goof short film production.

 Final Production:

    Reflection:

The film was enjoyable to make I had a great time recording the different scenes, however during the recording my room was being arranged so it looked different and messy. I wish I maybe recorded maybe 2-3 different more shots however at the same time the repetitive shots make the film look like what I was intended for. I liked how some of the videos sort of synced together to make the short movie look like it had a little bit of flow to it, and I originally didn't intend for it to have any raw audio but when I reviewed the clips it fit quite nice to be honest; so I decided to keep it.

 Proxies:

    What is a proxy?

Proxies is a small yet a useful tool in Premiere Pro. They take larger files (such as 4k or 8k footage) and create smaller versions of that clip so Premiere can render and process a lot smoother in situations that are needed. Afterwards when ready for export they take the proxies and recode them into the video files original resolution and quality that was formatted. This icon --------->

is a button that allows you to toggle the proxies on and off to see between the high and low resolution. (Basically turning them off/on).

I tested this technique and its very useful for video editing on the go when I'm not connected to a power source to give my processor the full power it needs to professionally edit. It doesn't really buffer and if it does its rare and it gives me the ability to swiftly past through each and every clip with ease. I highly recommended this technique for people who don't have the best of processing computers and or for extremely high resolution videos. It saves a lot of time by taking a short amount of it. When a proxy is being created in Media Encoder it takes a small amount of rendering to to fully create one (And a little bit of storage). To create a proxy you just need select the clips and right click on them and select proxy and choose your formatting of the proxy.

Here's a picture of all the clips that I have recorded from home that have been recorded from my phone. The process is going slow but It'll quickly speed up mostly because I had to wait till morning or night to record the scenes. Now however since I have the recording phase done I can quickly start to edit and work on all the new and old techniques I've been using on my blogposts  since the beginning of the year.

Smooth Slow Motion:

In some cinematics that use time remapping, a clean slow motion can give a professional feel to the clip/shot. However in order to have proper true slow motion you need the proper recording equipment. FPS (Frames Per Second) is dependent on how "choppy" your slow motion is going to look. If you have low FPS (ex. 24 fps), the slow-motion will be hard to use. But if you have high FPS (ex. 120 fps) the slow motion could be easily configured into a smooth slow transition. 60 FPS is most common used in recording of Phones, Cameras, Screen Recording, etc. which is usable but not ideal. The higher the frame rate the better quality you'll get out of this effect. A swift effect to add and to change, you can really see the difference. I would add this into my film if it had the proper FPS to make it not noticeable that it was effected .

Rendering Video to the Highest Quality:

This blog will be an important reminder to myself and many users on how to export to the best looking video quality that that can be produced in Premiere Pro. While not an exact technique every creator or artist should strive to their best ability to make their art work as clean, and top-notch looking as it can get from the public viewers. It was a fast and easy process to understand and to know for the future. The best part was is that you could actually save it as a rendering preset so you can automatically just keep applying the preset to save a couple minutes of changing everything to the way you want it. I could see the difference when the maximum bitrate is applied and even though its a larger file when exported it gives the video a crisper, better video quality than regularly exporting it from one of Adobe's presets. I would use this in every single one of my projects, even for personal use, however it is recommended to have an external hard drive to keep the files or use for extra storage in if you plan to be keeping the videos.\

 Speed Ramping:

What is It?

Speed ramping is when you take a clip and slow it down or speed it up with a smooth transition of one another rather making it choppy and quick. It's mainly used in Time Remapping to give it a smooth effect once committed.

The Result:

It was a slow process, you ad to time the ramp correctly to give it that nice "whoosh" transition. It's way more efficient and more easy to do it in After Effects however if you are limited to Premiere Pro it can still be done with a lot of patience. If you want the clip to be slower it gets longer, and if you want the clip faster it get shorter so you have to make sure there's no other clips around that could possibly be effected by it over lapping. It's a nice "effect" to put before or after a time-lapse or to give it a clean slow-motion effect which both could possibly be in a short film or video.

The Process:

1. Increase your video in "V1" so you can see the thin white line going through the video.

2. Right click the top left corner of the clip and select "time remapping."

3. Click on the line where you want the ramp to start. ( Hold control when clicking on the line)

4. Drag the line on the right hand side up or down to change the speed you want the speed to adjust to.

5. Take the right hand side of the arrow marker and slide it to the right creating the "slope."

6. Take the blue vertical lines and adjust it to the left and right to create the vertical slope.

Masking Transition:

What is Masking Transitioning?
A masking transition is when an object that vertically or horizontally takes up the whole frame and pans through the whole scene and smoothly transitioning into another scene or shot of the video.

The Result:
It was a slow process to overtake, yet very useful in a lot of scenarios. It's a small and very clean transition from one scene to another and can be used in a lot of ways other than just switching camera angles during the short film. It takes time because you have to go frame by frame to make sure the masking fits perfectly when it pans or it'll look awkward in the final edit. Overall I will definitely be using this not only in these projects but in the future to give my personal videos a professional look to it.

Motion Tracking (In Premiere):

What is Motion Tracking?

Motion Tracking is when you take an object in the scene or field of view and you make it the center of the video footage for as long as it's selected. It gives the object you're centering the "spotlight" of the scene or cut so it draws the audiences
 attention faster and easier.

The Result:
Time consuming however very satisfying once finished with the the camera tracking. Its a possibility that I'll be using this in my films in specific ways, or items that need more attention to, however depending on the film, to me Motion Tracking is more something used more fore specific types of videos that require it and not all do. It's an amazing technique for my side projects that I create, but for more personal videos I don't think it would fit well.

The Process:
  1.  Go to the beginning of the clip
  2.  Click on the effect controls
  3.  Enable Position and Scale
  4.  Scale in a little bit so the outer frame doesn't interact.
  5. Then frame by frame keep the object you want centered. (Keyframes should automatically appear once changed to a new position)
  6. Once done rescale it back to normal size. (usually 100)

Cinematic Black Lines/Bars:

What Is It?

Cinematic Black Bars is defined in its name. Two black bars, one on the top, and one on the bottom to enhance the image or shot of the film to give it a "Hollywood" cinematic feeling, like in the movies, and or to focus on something specific.

The Result:

Although an easy screen effect to add, it was a lot more challenging to find how to properly execute it into the shot/film. I couldn't decided whether to do a fade in/out with the opacity, or pan the bars vertically or horizontally. It's definitely meant for scenery changes or shot changes so it can just appear or not appear, or maybe used for a time-lapse. I will definitely use this technique in my videos for that cinematic feel. It's used greatly amongst not just Film Makers, but Youtubers, Tik Tokers, pretty much any media across the world.

                                                                The Process:

  1.  Create a New Adjustment Layer
  2. Drag onto timeline over the selected footage you want to apply it to
  3. Search up "Crop" in the effects panel
  4. Apply the "Crop" effect onto the Adjustment Layer in the timeline
  5. In the effect control panel click on the "Crop" effect (make sure ADJ Layer is selected) and click the top value and change it to 12% (do the same for the bottom value).
  6. (To fade in and out *learned from personal experience*) Click on the "Opacity" effect and create a point in the very beginning of the ADJ layer.
  7. Make sure it is on 0%
  8. Go 5 frames ahead and create another keyframe and adjust the "Opacity" effect to 100%
  9. Repeat from the last 5 frames of the ADJ layer just flipped.

Text and Image Blogpost

 Barbara Kruger:

Barbara
Barbara Kruger, born in January 26th, 1945, was an iconic artist during her career. As an activist her art inspired many people across the United States to be their own person as a woman living in her time.

Her Artwork:

Simplistic, but impactful, Barbara's artwork was nothing more than a picture that contained some sort of gesture or human feature, and combined it with  simple phrases or words to make the people who saw her artwork think, and think deeply. Some famous works include the caption, "I shop, therefore I am," "Your body is a battleground," and "You are not yourself." All of these were advertised with bold letters in newspapers to bring attention to her viewers and readers, to make them curious on what's happening in society.

Modern Day:

Even though it was years ago, the art today still inspires many people, businesses, and advertisers to use her art, or format of Text and Image. Old diners still have some posters, Surpreme uses her art style as basic yet fashionable, huge white text with red background, and people still look up to it as a sign that anyone can do anything, as long as there's hope.

My Art:

Words can give a lot of impact and meaning if properly introduce or given with emotion rather than a dull concept. I can use Text and Imagery by overlaying the right scene with a simplistic title, or because my theme of the year is time, a basic clock function with text can be put on the screen to show the flow of time, or a date, or even a small inspirational phrase, etc. That's multiple ways of expressing emotion or personal thinking with Text and Imagery. It doesn't even have to be impactful, a small added detail can show a lot of dedication to a film or what the audience wants to know or see.
The one thing that interested me was that Barbara's artwork didn't have to be special at all, in fact it wasn't she didn't go over the top with multiple pictures, or a lot of words to give out the information for her views, she made it small and simple, and made the readers do all the thinking, to inspire themselves, rather than letting her be the person to inspire them.

Layer Investigation

 Layering:

Overlapping and overlaying a multiplicity of images, evaluating the sacredness of any one picture.

Takashi Murakami is an artist who was popular in the early 2000s and still is today, he's known for his artistic symbol of the flower with a happy face and vibrant colors. It is an iconic image that has partnered with many clothing brands and public places around the world. I thought it was super interesting that he became an iconic figure just by creating art from his culture and making it more colorful and pure, while it having a dark meaning.

Layering has given multiple opportunities to express their form of artwork and input their own ideas, whether it's culture or just expressions. A great example of that is graffiti in public areas across the world.
Example:

Layering My Art:

I might be able to use layering in my own art by adding overlap effects to make seem like time is going faster or slower by showing the image of a clock's hands increasing or decreasing in speed. Also giving my video a proper introduction or conclusion slide such as specific text or even overlaying my video with subtitles of information or features that would help the audience understand the plot more. The layering in might are will make the film be more eye catching with different "art styles" implemented into the concept of time. It'll be something that's short, simple, however gives the scenery view a new purpose/ meaning to the shot, or specific viewpoint in that scene.

Hybridity

The Works of Hybridity:

What I've learned is that hybridity gives random events with structures and combines them with different cultures of art to give the scenery a more beautiful look to tell a story, or express emotions or the time period someone or the maker was in to understand the uses that were distributed to them during that period. They give structures of depth and wonders and combine them with a proper story that fits extremely well into the meaning or theme. Using the deception and understanding of history and time to combine different cultures and different, advancements in art and video design. Yes, the fact that he took iconic scenery and turned it into a more beautiful sight to show the public a true form of art and design is really inspiring and an interesting event.

Theme/Concept for the Year

My theme/concept for the year is TIME. Time is a really fun and really expanded topic to entertain and show as a form of art work. Time is a short, precious thing to us and I’m sure everything that has life to it, and young kids or children really don’t appreciate the time they have as being kids until they mature into young adults. For my first project I want to create a small video to show how fast time moves day by day, being repetitive to the point of boredom as an upcoming or already adult in society. Waking up, working, going home, working, sleep, repeat. However it’ll show with good dedication towards your work, you’ll receive satisfying rewards that you’ll enjoy, because as life as I see it the phrase “Enjoy the little things.” is an everyday statement in actions. While the theme TIME is easy to understand and compel into a visual idea, it can deeply impact the audience to those viewing it, creating realization. A movie that inspired me to this idea was “Marvel’s Captain America”

After trying so hard to get into the military he worked everyday he feel in love with a woman, and near the end of the movie he sacrificed his life for the greater good, however froze in ice for the next 60 years, which led to present day, and he lost most of his friends and the woman he loved. In the concluding movie “Avengers: End Game”, Captain America (Steve), he went back in time to put back all the proper infinity stones, however instead of coming back to the future, he stayed the years he missed and enjoy his life and then came back old and his life being fulfilled.

A recent game that also gave me the idea was “Little Nightmares II”

This game is a horror/adventure indie game that involves a miniature character (you) and your friend sarah (in yellow rain jacket) travel across many places of an old dystopian world. The boss encounters involve a hunter, teacher, doctor, baker, etc, however the final boss displays a tall man in a suit that chases after you. Near the end of the game you get trapped inside an office building and slowly become the tall man in the suit, the nightmare, and there’s been a lot of theories on what the game actually meant however the protagonist (you) is running away from adulthood, of working over and over everyday, the nightmare of being a child and growing up to become an adult with a profession, but he eventually became one himself. This presents that the childhood is the best parts of your life because you have the most fun rather than becoming an office worker, the time eventually takes everyone and forces to do things people don’t want to do or become.

My film will show that overtime to enjoy what you have now as a child or if you work at least do what you love, because if not, then you will suffer until retirement.

Sound Design - EQ

  • What is EQ?

The Process of changing different frequency components in a audio signal.
  • How does an instrument or voice’s timbre affect how we EQ?

It gives us unrecognizable sounds that aren't in harmony so it's hard to understand.
  • How does masking effect recordings with multiple sounds?

Masking reduces this effect so it can be as clear as possible.
  • How can you use filters to improve audio quality?

It cuts or boosts specific parts of the audio to make it more clear.
  • Explain Additive and Subtractive EQ.

Addictive EQ is when you boost the sound to your liking, and subtracting is when you cut down the music to the proper level.

Sound Design- Dynamic Range and Metering

  • What is Dynamic Range? The difference of the softest and loudest of dB.

  • How does it affect Sound Recording? It enhances specific parts of the music to give you a better perception on the sound.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

  • Why is metering important?  It shows the different loudness of each sound that's being produced in the film

  • How can it help us with our sound recording? It can help us compress the other sounds.

  • What happens when the meter runs over level? It becomes to loud and it can be distorted.

Sound Design- Intent & Meaning

 1) https://www.nowness.com/series/directors-cuts/blast-theory-my-one-demand-step-out

The Tone is a lot louder and straight forward which goes well with the pacing of the video which is smooth yet faster then the other videos that were given. The directors intention is that even though in the moment it's scary, standing up for someone in the long end will result in happiness. The impact on the audience would be to inspire them to understand that real life can be dangerous sometimes so you have to go through it and be at your best. Most components in the video were the guitar playing in the background, the sound of driving on the road, and the lady's voice. I counted around 3-4 different sounds in that video. The guitar and the voice overlay was the loudest while the roadside sounds and the beeping to the car was more minor. Relating to the women's story the choice of sounds and scenery gave it a more natural feel to the story that was being told. A city is very common for crime and other things to happen. The film is telling a story, one by someone who had a deeply relatable experience.

2) https://www.nowness.com/series/directors-cuts/ewan-stewart-getting-on

The tone sounded very rushed yet calm while the pacing had some quickness towards it. I don't really know what the intention of the director was, but maybe it had to do with something as "as long as you make it to the end you'll get your own satisfied reward." Atleast for me the impact was quite confusing, but yet tense, I was waiting for something to happen but it just kept it's same tone. Around 4-5 sound components. The components that were louder were obviously the voices and the banging of the door and stirring of the tea, and the ones that were softer were the street life and the grocery store ambiance. This film makes it interesting because it 's a black and white film which usually means sadness or boring films, but the intensified noises really makes it more interesting then it without the proper tuning.

From these directors I understand that you don't need a plot or a mindset to make an interesting film, you just need good audio that corresponds with the viewpoints of the film.

Everything is going fine however my phone is not uploading specific videos. I don't know why but when I go to upload them they prepare to then it states that there is an error and t o try again later. I've reuploaded multiple times but it doesn't seem to want to work. I believe it has something to do with the large space of the video file because I did record it in 4k 60FPS and I can't change that status, when I tried to shorten the clip it would bug out and I lost 1 video footage due to corruption.

Production Blog Post V2

The process is going well, I have all but 2 clips to record due to slight changes to plans, however it's going swiftly. I've uploaded the some clips to my computer to start on the production and to assemble my clips. The production phase had its hard times with last minute responses or rescheduling recording times, but it's working out so far. It's hard to prop up the phone to record specific angles and there's been specific times where I had to rerecord clips. The upload time from phone to google drive however is really annoying, it's taking so much more time to upload then it usually does and that was most of my time doing tonight.

Video Progression

I have most of the shots done that are needed to edit the film. The process has been going well with a swift timely manner. I do have 2 of my friends helping me with this film to make it a lot easier with the idea and will be done for sure by the end of this week. We have most of the beginning except for one clip and up to the "climax stage" as if right now. However I do believe this week will be a little bit more difficult because I've been studying for lots of personal items and other tests/quizzes for school. It should go well with no hiccups.

Plot Diagram THingy

I chose the Horror genre and some conventions are fear of death, a killer, survivors, suspense, some sort of fatal accident, etc. The opposite of horror films are happy, comedy films, so some ways of doing some subverts are making the killer seem not professional at what he's doing, to make the movie seem for friendly to the audience, and relatable in a way.

Inglorious Bastards Review

Spaghetti Westerns were known as western genre movies made by Italy and other foreign countries. It was considered a dub version of western movies. A huge possibility that he used it for a war movie, was because WW2 was considered the bloodiest war in history, a lot of unpredictable and discusting events. Spaghetti Westerns are known for pushing point the standards of violence in movies. A couple ways I could think he subverted the audiences expectations was one, in the beginning the Nazi Officer acted like he was going to shoot the little girl, when in a moment of hesitation he let her going running away. The second way was when at the end Aldo went against command, and "killed" Hans. Lastly it would've been an expectation for Hitler to get away at the end of the movie, but he actually died from the two American Soldiers who killed him.
