 Cropping In Photoshop

For the upcoming districts art festival event, I have to learn to print out pictures that in a size of 14x20 in a 300 pxl resolution. It was my first time experimenting on not just doing those tasks but using the interface of photoshop. I've never used photoshop in my life before and it looks pretty interesting with a lot more buttons and options of the taskbar then there is in Premiere Pro. Mr.Bomboy had a really thorough how to video in class, and I was able to remember how to do it over the weekend, it was a pretty casual yet repetitive process. Other than some photos have bigger white bars than other photos it shouldn't have too much of a issue once they're cut off. Here is one of the finished products.

 Smooth Slow Motion:

    Premiere Pro

This technique is perfect for cinematic shots or that intentional slow needed shot. I'll definitely be using this in my films and in the future when needed to give off a certain vibe it needs to portray. When the time interpolation is switched to optical flow, it somehow renders more frames into the clip making the motion of the moving object a lot less choppy and spiritic, allowing to make the slow motion look more natural like it was recorded in that FPS.

Blog Update

I plan to stick with the design I've chosen, while advised against I believe I'm going to use paint, with grey colors to represent the software of Premiere Pro shown in the bottom of the middle section. I will have 6 pictures of my films throughout the years. With each picture I am going to put a small description on the film, shot, and some context behind it. I'll probably add some color to my name to let it flare out and hold a slide show of my films on the laptop that's behind held on the one side of the triangle.

Blog Investigation 4/10

    (In School)

There will be a total of 6 prints, 6 papers to describe the prints, and the thesis paper provided in the middle. There will be one laptop to slideshow films. (Triangle)

My name will be displayed at the top under the class title. My plan is to use grey with silver, and possibly other colors to go along with the them. Finally there will be an extended desk to hold my laptop(schools) that is showcasing my films.

MP3 Presentation Post

 Cory McCabe:

Cory's film was very enjoyable to watch, amazing shots of composition with well composed and cut clips. The one thing I was extremely fascinated about was the small slow motion effect in of of the shots when they were expressing joy and fun. (The Video was listen under private, couldn't post picture of scene). Another thing I admired of his film on how spot on his message was produced throughout the film itself. For my future film I plan to add in a lot of that slow motion effect.

Sean Hopkins:

Sean produced an amazing story. I can tell it was decently thought out with passion and expressed a deep meaning into the viewers mind. He had beautiful side pan transitions for his first time making them, and an unexpected on-layer screen effect which was the sticky note drawings. The title screen was edited great as-well. In my next film, there will definitely a lot more screen layered effects which I'm excited for due to the fact I'm focusing on editing rather than a story line.

Winnie Zhu:

The dedication that was shown to make this film blew me away. After Effects is an interesting program to use  to produce videos instead of Premiere Pro, and Winnie did an amazing job establishing shots and editing overlays into her film. I was impressed on all the animations and sound design too, I can passionately say that hers was probably my favorite film of this showcase. While there's a little story entitled to it, it is still fun to watch.

Production Blog Post 3/27

 Production:

A majority of my clips have been recorded. I have to go through 4 videos of 2-3 hours of footage contained inside each video. I've skimmed through a majority of them. I still have to record the beginning of the video, but as if right now it is matched with the audio, and 3 of the clips(started editing before hand).

I've been working on the time remapping as you can see with the keyframes on the picture above and so far I'm happy with the outcome that's provided, yet still there is much more work to be done. As references, I'll be using my previous blogposts and my playlist on YouTube to help me out with so effects that'll be added on later. Estimating that I might need a short extension however I'm not quite sure on the final production ETA.

 Intention & Explorations:

My film was purposely meant to try to show the repetitive part of time/life. It's to show that everyday is gradually almost the same with very little changes or differences. With humanity it's given that we prefer to save time by taking shortcuts, or learning to understand how to make "work" a lot shorter than what it used to be. My intention of this film was to express to everyone who has a difficult issue with time management, or struggles with slow production, that learning proper shortcuts could save a couple minutes of time, this doesn't specifically revolve around editing like this short film was, it can be used as a lesson of life. Time is something that not only does every person have but every living thing holds. It really spoke out to me differently than the other subjects of media and art design.

 Motion Tracking (In AE):

An easy way to motion track simple items or text in videos so you don't have to track frame by frame, especially on a 3D plane basis. Once imported you have to apply the "3D Motion Tracking" effect onto the video, allowing the program analyze every frame in the video shot.

It should look something like this with all the different colored dots scattered around the screen. Those are anchor points to which you can apply objects, text, images, etc. Once the selected item you put on that anchor point you can adjust them to make sure they look and fit right with the plane they are attached to. You can still add the same effects and layers you can onto this object even though they are attached to the plane. Then once you're finished, just sit back and watch through to make sure everything you wanted to see is in your image.

Pre Production Blog Post 3/6/22

 Pre-Production Phase:

I created a story board for that the rough draft would look like when I put together the clips in Adobe after effects. I spent a majority of my time looking for music with no copyrights, yet I enjoyed and envisioned what was going to process as I listened through it. My go to place was "NoCopyrightSounds" on Youtube because of their massive selection of free music to use. Lastly I went ahead and researched some audio effects that will be needed since there will be no background noise of the in-game gameplay, I put together a folder with sounds corresponding with the in game audio.                                           STORY BOARD:

Custom Export Settings For After Effects:

Rather than exporting in Media Encoder to rely on the quality, I found a rendering tutorial on how to optimize your video to the best quality it can be. Unlike Premiere Pro, in After Effects you can render specific compositions to see how they individually look.
In the photo to the right represents the small possibilities of how you can customize your render experience. You can change from the quality, FPS, time sampling, color depth, and start and finish time.

Another tab will pop up to show the video file type, and the render depth and quality. You can also edit the color render, depth, different formats, audio output files, and different audio formats.
Then if you choose to you can edit more color options in the Color Management tab.

 3D Text

A title or the name of the music is usually introduced in a opening shot of the cinematics of the montage/edit. It's common for the creator to just give the song credit by replacing the text with the name of the song and the title. 2D text is still common to use however adding the extra layer of depth makes the text layer look more impressive into the video, not only showing the professionalism of the creator but also the interpretation on how creative he is when it comes to expressing the beginning of the montage/edit.
This is a 5-6 minute tutorial on how to create a basic 3D text model that'll help me in the future to understand and use these for when I need them.

 Audio/Music Reacting Effect:

In creating edits, a majority of the time, the audio is some how syncing to effects or overlays of the video file. I decided to research how to properly do so as it is an important effect and feature to host in these types of videos. Creating an Audio Amplitude layer saves a lot of time as it automatically produces key frames to match with the audio’s beat, treble, etc. Of course this can be adjusted to the according sound levels you like to combine it with. Once effects are in place whether it’s brightness/contrast, or positions, opacity, or even complicated blues, you can then assign the “pick whip” tool (which is enabled for use under the expression tab by pressing alt then on the layer.) to the Audio Amplitude layer for it to them mimic the key frames, syncing the effect with the audio.

This effect has not been trialed yet however will soon to be in the production phase of this "film." So far this tutorial was the most modern one I could find relating to this subject. I'm extremally excited to see in action, because manually doing this process is extremely time consuming and I hope that this will make this section of editing a lot easier and faster in future projects.

Reflection:

This film was different, I'm not used to being in front of the camera so that was new to me as well as trying to implement different composition shots because it was suggested to put different angles into my film. I enjoyed the process however, it reached me out of my comfort zone, although the editing process was a little bit less heavy than it was on the last film manly because I was focusing on other parts of the project.

Personal Key Binding Reminders:

To edit a lot faster, and professional, its important to know your basic key bindings to save seconds or even minutes of time just by pressing a singular key. In my understanding of Premiere Pro, this is an area I personally have been severely lacking on which is something I plan to change in the future, due to the fact that key bindings really cut down the process to edit with certain actions. The list I provided below is the basic/ beginner or important key bindings to remember while editing in Premiere Pro. (Personal Opinion) As well as a quick reference guide so I know where to go if I forget which action is tied to which key.

Key Binding List:

Undo-        CTRL Z

Redo-         CTRL SHIFT Z

Select All-         CTRL A

Audio-           SHIFT G

Audio Gain-            G

Group-             CTRL G

Ungroup-         CTRL SHIFT G

Export-              CTRL M

Render In And Out-          ENTER

Zoom In-      -        (Timeline)

Zoom Out-      =    (Timeline)

Cut Tool-      C

Selection Tool-        V

Ripple Delete-        DELETE Key

Speed-        CTRL R

Aspect Ratio:

    What Is Aspect Ratio:
Aspect Ratio is the dimensions of the width and height of a TV screen. These also define the thickness of the backbars, usually defined in cinematic versions of the film, or a cinematic shot. There's also different aspect ratio for phone, tablet, and smaller monitor screens. These are important to remember for when it comes to exporting and rendering.

These are examples of TV aspect ratios with inches represented to the left of the ratio.

These are the basic aspect ratios for phones vertically that's used in apps such as Tik Tok.

These are also the commonly used ratio aspects for tablets.

1/30/22 Production Blog Post:

 Process:

So far my film is doing good, I have at least 75% of my clips done reordered and put into Premiere Pro. Due to the Winter weather I'm deciding to record all of my clips inside just different parts of my house. I'm currently learning more opacity techniques in Premiere, as well as advanced color correction, but probably not meant for this project. I still have maybe 5+ more shots to film and to revise a script a long the way. I'm just waiting to have the time to record it while the house is quiet since my parents are going to be gone for the weekend.

(Flipped Vertically, can't rotate it.)

MP2 Presentation Reflections

 Peer Presentation Reflections:

Sean Hopkins:
Sean's film had a lot of different composition, especially at the proper timing of the film, something my film did not have a lot of.

For example, this shot here was in my own opinion perfect representation of a over the shoulder shot. It shows the subject, objective, and a viewpoint of the story. There's a lot to look at so it kind of centers the actor and car with the diagonal lines and how clustered it is everywhere except the car and actor, it stands out.
Another great scene was the time-lapse of their friendship slowly growing. The panoramic transitions and shots were extremely strong here. It almost makes the sequences have a cinematic touch in a way which is something I'm trying to master Doing a First Person short film, is something I'm probably not going to be doing for the rest of class, to give my future films a flare in camera shots like Sean's perfectly represents.

Enzo Oxenreider:
Enzo showed amazing emotions in her film, since it was based off of tragedy their acting was on point. Not a lot of people are comfortable being in front of the camera, especially oneself they're usually too worried about insecurities or messing up, which is not the case for them. (Film was not provided in blog)

Another huge interesting fact was their production work ethic. They stated that they started backwards rather than forwards on her film. Making her process a lot easier to conclude with recording, mostly because it was outside. It interested me to record the outside shots first due to the cold weather rather than last.

Corey McCabe:

Similar to my idea, of t he everyday life, Corey represents his film completely different than mine. Which is interesting to see different peoples opinions and perspectives on the same subject.

Corey's camera angles, and shots were also well done. In this shot to the left it has a good representation of formal balance, and rules of third. He also entitled a lot of emotion into his characters, especially with wearing the monkey mask, emotions with gestures are hard for some people to do. Also something unique that no one else in the class did was a cliff hanger for Noah's film, as a part two sort of ideal. It really inspired me to want to work with other classmates in the class for my and their films. He also added comedy into a "serious" situation of how boring life is which was really good script writing that he planned for. Also the slow motion jumping shot had a warm feel to the film like it was progressing. (The video was unavailable)

Friday -  Story Board

This is a quick sketch of the the story board with the major events that's happening in the film. There will be no provided script due to the fact that there's going to be little to no dialogue, like my previous film. I've also thought about the thought process on where and when the shots are going to be shot, (ex. backyard, local park.) This will also be recorded with some costumes/extra props.

Intention Definition & Exploration of Ideas:

Intention: A thing intended; an aim or plan.

My film was purposely meant to try to show the repetitive part of time/life. It's to show that everyday is gradually almost the same with very little changes or differences. I felt like that's a lot of adults or even some children experience a life that they do not enjoy or prefer something much greater. This film was suppose to represent that, to show that life can be extremely boring at some points or times. It's something everyone experiences in their life, that making a choice can have consequences or benefits to your ticking away time. Time is something that not only does every person have but every living thing holds. It really spoke out to me differently than the other subjects of media and art design.
